Humor is the Highest Form of Creativity

Humorous People are Creative. Creative People are Humorous.

Innovation at the Speed of LaughterAre you stressed due to workload? Do your peers find you too boring to involve you in a discussion? Are you working in a starchy environment that is affecting your creativity? Don't panic. Laugh. This is all you need to start your creative juices flowing.

Humor is the key to creativity. Creativity is the way to success. In fact, humor is considered the highest form of creativity.

If you think you can not have fun and humor at work place, you are likely to make yourself a laughing stock.

There is a lot of negative energy around us that devitalizes our system, and affects our productivity adversely. With little changes in our working habits we can reenergize ourselves and perform better.

And what could be that little change? Ask people 'What's good' instead of mundane and boring 'How is it.' What we retain in our memory longest are the things that we do. Associate things with humor, it makes it easy to remember.

In a recent study, employees disclosed that they found 'personal thanks from the manager, public praise, morale building meetings, and promotions for performance' to be the top incentives.

Most of the corporations emphasize on rewarding the highest achievers. As a result, only the top performers are the ones who are truly motivated to excel. Others who feel they'll never have a chance to win, may get demoralized and less productive. The idea is to let the people compete against themselves. Set a goal of increased performance based upon previous level.

Managers have a greater responsibility to maintain high standards of performance. They must be specific and sincere in their rewards and recognition. Just walking around in the office and randomly stopping at the desk of staffers you don't know, turning your back and saying "good work" or "you are doing a great job" are of no use. Often times such casual attitude of managers may boomerang on them and stir resentment in subordinates.

The golden rule is not to mix praise with something else. Undiluted praise works wonders.
